My kids and I have been students at Institute for Visual Arts since its beginning. It is a very special place for us. IVA offers a great technical foundation for all levels, but what we love most is the nurturing and supportive atmosphere that Shannon has cultivated. Students are consistently encouraged to push beyond what we thought we were capable of. My daughter, a recent graduate of IVA’s K-12 Core Program, appreciates how closely Shannon works with each student to ensure they get the most out of their experience. Shannon is a passionate art educator with so much knowledge to share. The classes at IVA are fun and creative, but also challenging, and providing a space for us to express our individuality. IVA recently moved to a beautiful new space that serves as both a studio and an art gallery. My family has been taking classes at Institute for Visual Arts for over a decade.  My daughter and son were enrolled in children’s classes since the earlier days of IVA, then I started out by taking adult workshops, and ultimately enrolled myself in the Core Program. My daughter stayed in her weekly classes at IVA until she graduated high school last year! And in addition to the ongoing classes I attend, I also participate in rotating workshops and session classes. There are many things that set Shannon’s studio apart from the rest, but her ability to teach all levels of proficiency and age groups is perhaps the most impressive. Her enthusiasm, adaptability, her patience and desire for her students to gain confidence in the process rather than the product makes IVA feel more like a family than an art studio!
